| Man in Polyester Suit (1980), is one of my Robert Mapplethorpe’s favorite works (E.E.U.U. 1946 – 1989). Since I saw her for the first time, as it could have happened to many people, I remained impressed by the yustaposición of the power of the image itself and the sensitivity in the work, as work of art. This purity in the conception and the load of contents, opened the spectator, has pushed me to recreate this photographic image, across my tools.I try to satisfy my curiosity, uncovering the keys of his structure, through decomposition in basic planes and gestural lines. I have used this technique of drawing, because it facilitates the practical execution to me.Applying with very small paintbrushes, successive fluid clayers of slips on the small bowl of raw clay, which for his reduced format, it seemed appropriate to the intimate character that has the photography. |
Man in Polyester Suit (1980), es una de mis obras preferidas de Robert Mapplethorpe (E.E.U.U. 1946 – 1989). Desde que la vi por primera vez, al igual que ha podido ocurrirle a mucha gente, quedé impresionado por la yustaposición de la fuerza expresiva de la imagen en si misma y la delicadeza en el trabajo, como obra de arte. Esa pureza en la concepción y la carga de contenidos, abiertos al espectador, me ha empujado a recrear esta imagen fotográfica, a través de mis herramientas. Intento satisfacer mi curiosidad, desentrañando las claves de su estructura, a través de la descomposición en planos básicos y lineas gestuales. He utilizado esta técnica de dibujo, porque me facilita la ejecución práctica. Aplicando con pinceles muy pequeños, sucesivas capas fluidas de engobes, sobre el barro crudo del pequeño cuenco, que por su formato reducido, me ha parecido adecuado a ese carácter íntimo que tiene la fotografía. |
